About DPU

About

Duhok Polytechnic University (informally known as DPU) is a collegiate research institution situated in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. As the Kurdistan Region undergoes rapid development, there has been a continuous evolution in its educational requirements to meet the needs of its society. Over the past decade, both higher education enrollments and the number of educational institutions has seen significant expansion.

Operating as a public multi-campus university, DPU comprises six technical institutes and five technical colleges spread across six districts within Duhok Governorate. In addition, there were two institutes and two colleges in the Akre district that separated from the university and were later included in the Akre University of Applied Sciences, established in 2023. Each of these campuses caters to a distinct community with unique requirements pertaining to technology, health, engineering, manufacturing, administration, agriculture, accounting, and other related fields.

Established in 2012, Duhok Polytechnic University is one of the three polytechnic universities in Kurdistan under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Its origins trace back to the oldest educational institution in Duhok Governorate, founded in 1988, with more than 55,000 graduates since its inception.

Admission to DPU is based on high school scores, with classes commencing in late September and concluding at the end of June. The university offers a diverse array of curricula leading to Diplomas (Associate Degrees), Bachelor of Science Degrees, Master's, and PhDs. Course syllabi are meticulously developed under the guidance of the Quality Assurance department.

New programs are introduced only after the acquisition of necessary staff, space, facilities, and equipment. These programs are meticulously designed to align with governmental strategies and meet market demands. Currently, DPU is in the process of formulating a strategic plan in response to national assessment authorities and international academic accreditation standards. This underscores its commitment to academic excellence.

Furthermore, DPU actively fosters relationships with international universities through Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), with several such agreements already in place and functioning effectively.
