Information Technology (IT)


Introduction:

The Directorate of Information Technology was established when Duhok Polytechnic University was founded in 2013. This directorate provides technical and technological support to all colleges and institutes affiliated with the university. It also extends its support to other directorates under the university's presidency.


Vision:

Our primary vision is to build an integrated system for the university capable of providing electronic services to staff, students, and graduates. This system will play a positive role in the educational process and contribute to the advancement and development of our university.


Objectives:

The objectives of the Information Technology Directorate are as follows:

  1. Activate the technical role within the university and harness information technology capabilities to provide more services for the technical service community. This includes facilitating research and access to information.
  2. Prepare plans related to computerization, complete electronic knowledge-building processes, and identify ways to develop automated systems and devices in line with the current and future needs of the university. It supervises the monitoring and maintenance of the university's infrastructure and technology, expanding its services, including regular updates of the website and providing electronic services such as online academic management or infrastructure enhancement and service level via the provision of necessary hardware and equipment.

Tasks:

The main tasks of the Information Technology Directorate are:

  1. Establish and manage the university's website.
  2. Provide technical and technological support in various modern forms to the university's staff.
  3. Develop and introduce new systems to enhance services for the educational process and connect them to the university's website.
  4. Offer technical advice and consultations to all institutes and colleges regarding computer-related projects, the development of computer network infrastructure (wired and wireless), and e-learning systems.
  5. Coordinate with all academic departments to determine their various computer needs, such as computers, printers, projectors, and ensure the efficient utilization and redistribution of available devices when necessary. This includes regular visits to all departments and educational facilities of the mentioned institutes and colleges for monitoring work and inspecting various equipment.
  6. Collaborate with specialized companies to purchase the necessary devices (computers) and related accessories, as well as any software or systems, whether accounting, administrative, or educational. This includes defining technical specifications, studying submitted bids, supervising their receipt, and ensuring their compliance with required standards and proper functioning.
  7. Supervise the university's email system and develop the content of the website for all institutes and colleges.
  8. Collaborate with academic departments (Information Technology and others) at the university level to develop and update the electronic websites of institutes and colleges.
  9. Assist in providing technical support to administrative and academic departments.

Units of the Information Technology Directorate:

According to the structure of Duhok Polytechnic University, the directorate consists of two units:

  1. Website Unit: This section manages and updates the university's website.
  2. Maintenance Unit: This section is responsible for maintaining all electronic devices within the university.

However, it is worth noting that the directorate's work is not limited to these two sections alone but may include additional units according to the new organizational structure:

  1. Programming Unit: This unit focuses on developing systems that meet the university's needs, such as CAD systems, student feedback assessment systems, and more.
  2. Networks and Internet Unit: This unit manages the university's information network and internet services.
  3. E-Learning Unit: This unit oversees e-learning operations and all aspects related to online learning, including modern software and technologies used in managing e-learning programs with educational institutions.
